Njeri Wa Migwi

Njeri Wa Migwi is a fearless Kenyan human rights defender and a formidable voice in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), transforming her personal experience of a decade of domestic abuse into a powerful national movement.

As the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Usikimye, she has established a network of safe houses that provide vital refuge, medical aid, and legal support for survivors, including women, children, and members of the LGBTQ community.

Her activism extends beyond shelters; in January 2024, she was a leading organiser of nationwide anti-femicide protests in Kenya, drawing critical attention to the silent pandemic of violence against women.

Her unwavering commitment and impact have been acknowledged through several significant accolades, particularly in 2025.

In November 2025, she was the recipient of the Positive Impact Influencer of the Year award at the Pulse Influencer Awards.

This adds to her previous honours, which include being named the CEO of the Year at the 2024 East Africa Women of Excellence Awards and the Human Rights Defender of the Year in 2021 by the Defenders Coalition.
